So you want to be a SME?
About
In the spirit of collaboration and innovation, the CCCOnline Instructional Design (ID) Team implemented Subject Matter Expert (SME) training courses. First, we built a self-paced SME Orientation. After gathering additional feedback from stakeholders, we created a second version: a one-week facilitated workshop. Now SMEs have a better foundation for success in course creation and implementation, not only here at CCCOnline, but in other organizations where they might offer their expertise.
The Subject Matter Expert (SME) Orientation is a course for potential SMEs who are interested in participating in course development at CCCOnline. The course introduces potential SMEs to important concepts, best practices, expectations, and procedures for developing content for a CCCOnline course. It is facilitated and has multiple assessments.

What our SMEs are Saying
This course contains excellent resources for any level of course development, whether you are about to become a SME or just tweaking an existing course. It is so handy to have such information as Bloom's Taxonomy, rubric examples, accessibility information etc. available at one's fingertips. Examples of assessment are built into some of the modules as well, although even more would have been appreciated.

I am really impressed with the design of the Explorations for this course. I am thinking of various ways of designing a course at a different institution and thought this was fantastic!

I definitely feel like I understand the process of course development here at CCCO much better now, and I have a better grasp on why things are arranged in certain ways in the courses, and why we have certain resources and not others. My biggest take away from this training was looking at all of the course competencies and how we incorporate them into our lesson plans.
